With a new COVID-19 basic measures decree, the Ministry of Health is dropping the 3G rule in hospitals, retirement and nursing homes and other healthcare facilities starting today, Friday. The announcement was made via a news release. Employees and visitors will no longer need a valid 3G certificate as of tomorrow. The FFP2 mask obligation remains, however. Federal states and healthcare facilities can retain the 3G rule or a testing requirement.

End of 3G rule in hospitals and nursing homes
The ministry justifies this step with the current situation in hospitals and nursing homes. A mixture of different viral diseases is currently occurring there, in addition to Corona, for example, influenza or the RS virus. According to the statement, the mask is now the only reliable protection against these diseases.

Exposure for staff
“A 3G detection is no longer purposeful in this situation,” lets Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) know. It has been shown in recent months that vaccination and recovery only provide limited protection against passing on a Corona infection. In addition, mandatory testing and control are a burden for the staff.

For the time being, the amendment is valid until February 28, 2023. “Should anything change in the current situation, a new version of the Corona regulation is possible at any time,” Health Minister Rauch explained.
